Betty, Billy, Shelley, and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as we mourn the loss of Bill.
We have many great memories and treasure the friendship we’ve shared for more than 50 years.
I met Bill when he was in his teens; we celebrated birthdays together (9/4 and 9/11).
We had fun whenever we were together; Bill was quick-witted and made everyone feel great. In the early years we deer hunted together, along with my father at Licking, MO. We always seemed to get one. One year when we went, we missed getting up early because the alarm clock didn’t ring and Bill was aggravated. When we got back to camp, Bill took the clock out of the van, set it on a fence post and proceeded to shoot the clock into a million pieces … and with his typical dry humor remarked, “HOW TIME FLYS”!
Bill was an avid hunter, and an intuitive, instinct shooter with a gun or a bow. He never aimed at the game, he just pointed and shot. Because we were getting older and didn’t want to climb hills, we began fishing more. We entered a few local tournaments and placed or won most of the time. Bill was definitely in tune with nature, which only enhanced his natural fishing and hunting ability, a trait that few possess. I learned a lot from Bill. Often when we fished larger tournaments, and we went to enter, we heard many fishermen say, “Oh no, here come the spinnerbait twins”! The Spinnerbait was Bill’s favorite and pretty much the only bait he fished with back then. Bill was focused and competitive, knowing where, when, and how to catch fish without a locator (we didn’t have them back then). I still can’t find them …. even with the electronics!
Another special memory was playing cards with you and Betty, back when our kids were little tykes. Although you beat us most of the time, we enjoyed every minute, especially when Bill and I beat the girls.
Ann and I still talk and laugh about the trip to Kincade, the family camp out, and that awesome boat ride Bill took us on. Bill wasn’t up to speed running his new green boat with stick-steering, but gunned it, almost tossing Ann and her dog out the backend of the boat. Don’t recall her going back out in the boat that weekend…
Bill loved life to the fullest, he loved his kids, his grandchildren, and his childhood sweetheart, his Beloved Bett. I pray for healing strength and peace during this difficult time for your family, and for all who were blessed to know and call Bill their friend….
Until we meet on the other side, rest in peace.
