Rodger Sloan

Obituary of Rodger Dee Sloan

Rodger Dee Sloan, age 62, of Richland, Missouri passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022 in his home.

Rodger was born on July 30, 1959 in Granite City, Illinois, the son of Dee Allyon Sloan and Virginia Bryce Usery Sloan.

On August 5, 2006, Rodger was united in marriage to Teresa Lynn Hickey in Richland, Missouri.  They shared 15 years together at the time of his passing in 2022.

Rodger loved the Lord, first and foremost.  He exemplified the fruit of the Spirit.  He was loving, kind, patient, and faithful to all, especially his family.  He loved spending time with his family and friends, continually pursuing the knowledge of God’s Word and talking with his brothers in Christ about God.  He was a highly regarded mentor to his friends and coworkers.

Rodger was an avid speed reader with a photographic memory who could teach himself any skill.  He had several vocations including welding in a ship yard, police officer, locksmithing, private investigator, Camden County Sheriff’s Deputy, and Lake Regional Hospital Security Guard.  He loved sparring with his friends in martial arts and target shooting.  He was a quick witted, funny guy with a dry sense of humor.  As some of his friends have said, “Heaven has gained an amazing warrior.”

Rodger is survived by his wife Teresa, his son Brandon Sweitzer and wife Heather of Alton, Illinois; his step daughter Selena Montoya of Mendon, Massachusetts; three grandchildren Julina, Aiyana, and Niklaus Sweitzer; and one-half sister Julie Karabec; several nieces and nephews.

Rodger was preceded in death by his parents and one-half brother Virgil Ketcherside.
