Obituary of Margaret "Eileen" (Collins) Gress

Margaret "Eileen" (Collins) Gress, age 85, of Iberia, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Miller County Nursing Home in Tuscumbia, Missouri. She was born in Jerseyville, Illinois on October 28, 1936, daughter of the late David and Maggie (Baum) Collins. On November 5, 1955, Eileen was united in marriage with William R. Gress, Jr., who passed away November 17, 1989. She was preceded in death by 3 of her 4 children, Cheryl (Gress) Hancock, William R. Gress, III and Margaret Michelle "Shelly" (Gress) Mathes and her son-in-law Earl Wayne Humphrey.

 

Eileen was a graduate of Jerseyville Community High School. She was a real estate broker for Holzinger Real Estate and Simpson Real Estate companies in Litchfield, Illinois from 1978-2000. Eileen traveled to Ireland three times and had a dual citizenship in Ireland and USA.  Eileen was an accomplished artist and had many portraits and landscaping oil paintings. Eileen also loved to quilt and made many quilts for family and friends.

 

Eileen is survived by her daughter Kathleen "Kathie" Thomas Humphrey of Iberia; six beloved grandchildren, Megan Gress, Brad Thomas, Mitchell Hancock, Morgan Gress, Alicia Hancock and Maggie Mathes; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

 

At this time there will be a private celebration of her life held in Litchfield, Illinois, at a later date.
